A real green setting, the beach of Anse Céron is one of the most beautiful black sand beaches of Martinique! It has this wild charm that the northern beaches have and a small air of end of the world reigns there. The beach is lined with coconut and grape trees for the greatest happiness of visitors who come to seek shade. It is an ideal place to relax in a quiet place with the appearance of a deserted island.
You will appreciate its striking beauty even more in good weather. Indeed, its location on the "leeward" coast can make the waters rough in case of heavy weather. If you are a seabed enthusiast, you will love its abundant underwater life!
Like most of the beaches in the north of the island, the sand is black, bordered by clear water. The coconut and grape trees that line the beach offer enough shade to enjoy your day at Anse Céron. They also give the beach a wild look.
The green of the trees contrasts with the gray of the sand and the translucent water to create a splendid colorful picture. From the beach, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Ilet de la Perle, a volcanic rock and a famous diving spot. On a clear day, you may even see the neighboring island of Dominica. The low traffic of the beach of Anse Céron makes it an ideal place if you are looking for peace and quiet away from the crowds.
The water of Anse Céron is clear but can quickly become agitated in case of strong wind. In the absence of white bottom, it is quite deep. You are therefore invited to keep a watchful eye on your children. Bad weather can also make it difficult or even impossible for youngsters to swim. If you are a snorkeling enthusiast, grab your mask and snorkel! The bottom is very interesting, especially if you get close to the rocks located on the northern end of the beach. Tropical fishes, sea urchins and different reliefs will offer you a nice aquatic show.
If you are lucky you may even see dolphins from the beach. And during the migration of the whales in December, it is also possible to see their breath in the distance.
The beach of Anse Ceron is well equipped. You will find many picnic tables and barbecues. We recommend that you bring your own grill if you have one, as they are sometimes lacking on site.
Finally, in the first part of Anse Ceron you will find a "cove within a cove". Indeed, Anse Tamarinier is a small cove located in Anse Ceron. It is wilder and less developed, but looks very similar to its larger neighbor.
As we said, it is possible to make your own barbecue on the spot. You will not find any bar or restaurant on the beach. On the other hand, street vendors regularly pass by to offer you drinks and ice creams.
The beach is located not far from Le Prêcheur, a charming little fishing village. The opportunity to walk in an authentic Martinique village, under the gaze of the famous Mont Pelée. The beach of Anse Céron is also not far from the Céron dwelling, a former sugar factory dating from the XVIIᵉ century open to visits.
If you like walking, a superb hiking trail will take you in the direction of n passing through several coves like Anse Couleuvre, Anse des Galets, Anse à Voile or Anse Lévrier. The opportunity to admire the Caribbean coastline at the rhythm of your steps.
If you like scuba diving, the Ilet de la Perle is a must-see site. It is an uninhabited volcanic dome and very little frequented, which makes all its charm. You can observe small and large fish, but also sea turtles.
By going back up the road to the north you can reach Anse Couleuvre. Less easy to access than Anse Céron, because it is surrounded by cliffs, it was unknown for a long time. Today it is a place much appreciated by the Martiniqueans for its wild beauty. However, you have to be careful because of the currents and rollers that can form in case of bad weather. Note that the cliffs that separate Anse Céron from Anse Couleuvre are among the nicest snorkeling spots on the island.
The triangle of Anse Céron, Anse Couleuvre and Ilet de la Perle will delight you if you are a scuba diving or snorkeling enthusiast thanks to its superb sea bed.
