The Precheur is a commune in the northern end of Martinique, on the Caribbean coast at the foot of Mount Pelee. Contrary to what one might think, its name would draw its origin from a submerged rock whose shape was akin to that of a preacher.

The village has a rich history and abounds in natural and monumental sites. The Precheur remains today a small fishing village often ignored by tourists because of its isolation at the end of the road. Still, the village has everything to seduce tourists: the dry and sunny climate of the Caribbean coast, as well as two of the most beautiful wild beaches of the island, Anse Céron and Anse Couleuvre.

Four kilometers north of the village, not far from the Céron dwelling, a former 17th century sugar factory open to visitors, you can enjoy the superb grey sand beach of the Céron cove, lined with trees and coconut palms. Well shaded, it is ideal for a moment of relaxation, a refreshing swim or an impromptu picnic. From there, a magnificent hiking trail towards Grand’Rivière leads lovers of coastal scenery to several wild coves along the Caribbean coast, such as Anse Couleuvre, Anse Lévrier, Anse à Voile or Anse des Galets.

In addition to black sand beaches, the Prêcheur abounds in exceptional hikes: the Trois Bras river, the Mount Pelée through Grande Savane, the Chemin des Anses… Enough to delight lovers of hiking and idleness!
