Anses d'Arlet
Located on the most beautiful part of the coast of Martinique, the “route des Anses”, the Anses d’Arlet is nothing less than the most famous town of Martinique. Located in the southwest of the island on the Caribbean coast, it was named the second favorite village of the French in 2020. Its eponymous village, the small town of Anses d’Arlets, is the most famous photo spot for photographers. It is famous both for its characteristic creole houses of the péyi, its church facing the sea and the famous pontoon of the town.
The city was named after a former Caribbean chief, Arlet.
It is one of the most touristic towns of the island. This is mainly due to its positioning which extends over three major coves on the Caribbean coast of the island :
- Anses-d’Arlet (the village)
- Grande-Anse (North part)
- Petite-Anse (South side)
On the Grande-Anse side there are two other atypical beaches (coves):
They are atypical because they are located side by side, one with white sand (Anse-Dufour), logical for a southern beach, and the other with black sand (Anse-Noire), which is surprising since these are the northern beaches of Martinique which are generally black sand because of their proximity to Mount Pelée and therefore a volcanic soil.
