Le Robert is a city of Martinique located in the central east of the island. It is the third city of Martinique in terms of population (behind Fort-de-France and the Lamentin). The city of Le Robert is especially known for facing one of the most striking bays and islets of the island!
The bay is protected by coral reefs and shallow waters composed of 10 islets: Ilet Petite Martinique, Rocher de la Grotte, Ilet aux rats, Ilet Boisseaux… And Chancel islet, the largest islet of Martinique and the perfect spot to observe iguanas in the wild ☺.
Le Robert was founded in 1837 and has based its economy since then on agriculture and artisanal fishing. The town also has an important tourist vocation. The commune has sugar cane lands which are now transformed into banana cultivation and to a lesser extent market gardeners supplying the town’s markets with fresh local produce. Agrotourism is beginning to take off.
