Overview

For the record...

The history of the Distillerie Simon begins with the arrival of Jean Assier in Martinique in the 18th century. It was at this time that he acquired this estate with its tropical climate. Years later, at the beginning of the 21st century, his descendant, Yves Assier de Pompignan, created the new A1710 rum distillery in the heart of the Flower Island.

The distillery produces agricultural rums from pure sugar cane juice, with great respect for tradition.

Pure product of the Antilles

With a controlled designation of origin, Martinique's agricultural rum is one of the greatest symbols of the Flower Island. Some spirits even have the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label.

Located in the heart of the Simon dwelling, the A1710 rum distillery perpetuates an artisanal know-how from generation to generation. Also known as the Simon Distillery, the establishment offers a range of white agricultural rums, entirely produced on site, from the plantation of the sugar cane to the final bottling stage.

The distillery also produces very old rums, organic rums and rums rested in wood. All its spirits are bottled in drop-shaped bottles with a golden cap. A sophisticated and elegant design, imagined by Yves Assier de Pompignan.

Between tradition...

The sugar canes are harvested on site, by hand. They are then pressed at the mill, in the heart of the estate, using a technique that has remained unchanged since the 19th century. The juice obtained is then placed in fermentation vats. The distillation process then takes place in copper stills, which will produce agricultural rum with a subtle aroma.

... and modernity

In keeping with the times, the A1710 rum distillery uses modern techniques to perpetuate its ancestral know-how. It has refrigerated vats at the cutting edge of technology, such as "la belle Aline": a copper still equipped with a column with seven trays for distillation.

The importance of organic farming

In the heart of the cane fields, part of the production comes from organic plants, benefiting from the ECOCERT certificate since 2016. No pesticides, fertilizers, chemicals or weed killers are used on the plot where the two vintages of the white rum"La Perle Rare" are produced. They have won numerous awards over the years, guaranteeing its high quality and exceptional taste.

Extraordinary rums

The Distillery offers great vintages, such as the"Cheval Bondieu", a blend of 18 and 36 months old rums rested in oak barrels and distilled in a copper still. The A1710 rum factory also produces very old rums in limited quantities. They are made from a blend of spirits aged between 8 and 11 years, and are recognisable by their amber colour and powerful aroma

The visit: when the pleasure of the senses is combined with the present

Renovated in 2016, the new Simon distillery welcomes you in an exceptional setting. Throughout your visit, you will walk through the organic sugar cane fields, sheltered from the sun.
