Overview

A part of Martinique's heritage

Like no other in the West Indies, the Neisson rum distillery symbolises the whole of Martinique's culture. Located in the small town of Le Carbet, near Fort-de-France, since 1931, it is one of the few family distilleries still in operation on the Flower Island.

At the foot of Mount Pelée and a few metres from the beach, its sugar cane plants enjoy a favourable location and an exceptional climate.

Ancestral know-how and family tradition

The history of the Neisson rum distillery began in the 1930s. Two brothers acquired the Thieubert house, a 20-hectare parcel of sugarcane fields.

After having seduced many Martiniqueans, Neisson rum was exported beyond the island and delighted the taste buds of the inhabitants of Metropolitan France. Since then, the distillery has been passed down from generation to generation. Today it is managed by Grégory Vernant-Neisson, who inherited his grandfather's passion. He distils his own agricultural rum and produces his own yeast strains for fermentation.

The first organic agricultural rum

Attached to the respect of nature, Grégory Vernant-Neisson insists on preserving the ancestral methods of his family. More than ever in tune with the times, he thus developed in 2016 his first organic rum with the AOC Martinique label. This one is produced from organic sugar cane juice, whose production extends over 4 hectares.

Zépol Karé

Renowned throughout the Flower Island and even beyond, the spirits of the Neisson rum factory come in several categories: white, amber, old, extra-aged or wood-aged rum.

With a beautiful roundness in mouth and aromatic notes, the agricultural rum Neisson is a sure value which delights as much the amateurs of good rum as the consumers decomplexés. What makes it so successful is also and above all its timeless bottle, sometimes hand painted. Its bottle, which is part of the Martinique culture, has even been nicknamed"Zépol Karé" because of its shape.

An exceptional white rum

Neisson rum has an excellent reputation, and for good reason!

Each year, it is blended with vintages from previous years. This ensures that it never loses any of its aromatic power. This white rum, distilled in stainless steel vats for 6 months, has a beautiful crystalline colour. On the palate, it reveals subtle floral aromas, and sweet notes of honey and coconut. So many assets that allowed it to win the gold medal of the Concours Général Agricole de Paris, in 2016.

Traditionally aged rums

Aged for three to nine years, Neisson aged rum rests in oak barrels that have contained bourbon. This gives it its distinctive taste, with woody and spicy notes. Among the finest vintages of the distillery, the 2005 vintage was aged for 12 years in the distillery's cellars. The "profile 105" was rested in different barrels. This is what gives it its marked and sophisticated taste, with very slightly peppery notes.

Appointment on the spot

On a human scale, the Neisson rum distillery benefits from an exceptional location, between the sea and the mountains. During the visit, which is entirely free of charge, you will discover the different stages of production of one of the most famous agricultural rums in the West Indies. Harvesting the sugar cane, pressing at the mill, visit of the distillery and tasting... Each process testifies to the family know-how of this house where Neisson rum always flows freely!
