Direction the North of the island! After a winding route along the West coast - Côté Caraïbes - you arrive at the end of the D10. You are finally there: the beginning of the hike of the Cascade de l'Anse Couleuvre. Discover the secrets of this excursion, reputed to be the most beautiful in Martinique. Important information to prepare your trip in the rainforest where we could imagine ourselves as Tarzan and Jane 2.0.
Go to the town of Le Prêcheur. Continue on the Departmental road 10 and after having passed the anse Céron, you arrive on the parking of the anse couleuvre.
Some advice from friends. Important to know about the vehicle: the path is steep; avoid going there with a low-slung car, especially if it is a rental car. The return to the rental car company could hold some surprises... In the curves, if you are not yet totally used to driving on the winding roads of the island, drive with caution. And don't hesitate to honk your horn.
Anse Couleuvre is a popular spot for both tourists and locals. Thus, the number of visitors can be higher on weekends. To enjoy the trail in calmer conditions we advise you to go there during the week or early in the morning. In addition, you will be able to admire a rich fauna less intimidated,
Once on the parking lot, you will not have time to get lost. The path is well-marked, managed and maintained by the Office National des Forêts. Take the path on your right and explore, towards the waterfall!
Access to this 3.8 km round trip hike is free and does not require the accompaniment of a guide. However, a local will be able to show you more precisely the jewels of the flora and fauna. He will explain you the history behind some ruins of an old house.
It is necessary to count approximately 2 hours, round trip. A well-deserved break to swim and rest on the beach of Anse Couleuvre could tempt you. Do not miss this magnificent black sand beach. On this intimate cove, you will be able to see the islet of the pearl. Famous diving spot for the amateurs!
This excursion is accessible to all, young and old. We recommend you to bring good shoes. The path sometimes obliges you to cross streams or to take support on sometimes wet rocks. The trip may seem a little long on the way out (it will be much less long on the way back), so take something to hydrate yourself and have a snack. You will arrive in great shape in front of the waterfall.
The hike takes you through a wild landscape where you may be "lucky" enough to observe the local beauty. We are talking about the Matoutou cliff, an endemic species of mygale. The ascents and descents are largely accessible even to the less athletic among us (it's all a question of support and taking it at your own pace).
You finally arrive in front of the waterfall, on the side of the cliff - and what a cliff! It is about 120 meters high. From it flows a soft and fresh stream of water, straight from the slopes of Mount Pelee, more or less strong depending on the rains of the season.
Admire the immensity and the beauty of the nature that surrounds you by taking a break on the rocks. And why not take a little bath or a waterfall shower? It's fresh, but it invigorates and gives you the energy you need to attack the return to the parking lot.
