Immersion in the mangrove of Génipa

You will embark on the Mantou, our small shuttle of about ten seats in small committee. You will discover the mangrove of the bay of Génipa and you will enjoy a guided tour as instructive as playful.

The mangrove of Génipa Bay is the largest mangrove in Martinique. It covers almost two thirds of the 1800 hectares of mangrove that the island has (6% of the wooded areas). Once you reach the shores of the town of Ducos, you will go into the heart of the mangrove by taking the Canal Cocotte or the Canal de Rivière-Salée.

Here again, while travelling along the canal at reduced speed, our guide will not fail to teach you to distinguish the different mangrove trees (red, black, white and grey), their characteristics, their particularities, their sometimes spectacular mode of reproduction (the red mangrove is viviparous) and their mode of colonisation of shallow waters which make these species of trees the real kings of the mangrove.

We will also detail the immense variety of the fauna of the mangroves: crabs (touloulou, spider crab, etc...), crustaceans, insects (we can see impressive termite mounds), but also the numerous birds (herons, egrets, etc...).
