The pretty beach is located in front of the charming little fishing village of Anses d'Arlet. You will find white sand and clear waters. The rocks, located a few dozen meters from the shore, which protrude from the sea, shelter a diversified marine fauna and flora. In this reef, you will discover, among others, coral fish and trumpet fish, as well as at least three varieties of lobsters and eels.
Anse Noire takes its name from its black sand beach, and is located between Anses d'Arlet and Trois Ilets. Sheltered at the bottom of a cove, it is not very frequented. On weekends, you will meet divers, attracted by the beautiful seabed of a great diversity and unreal beauty.
Even wilder and more remote, Anse Couleuvre, with its black sandy beach, will delight you with the richness of its marine life. You will find coral fish and, with a little luck, turtles. Discover there one of the wildest parts of Martinique, with an exceptional setting. To get there, you have to cross the ruins of an old house, the Maison Tardon, by a small path. The whole in the middle of a tropical forest, giving you the impression of being at the edge of the world. During the dry season, the beach is very busy on weekends.
If you want to discover wrecks buried by the waves, the wrecks of Saint-Pierre are a great place to dive. This wreck site is the most famous in the Caribbean. These ships with a sad fate sank during the eruption of Mount Pelee on May 8, 1902. A fiery cloud fell on them. At present, fourteen wrecks have been identified, at a depth of 20 to 80 meters. You can see Diamant, Clementina, La Thresa Lo Vigo, Tamaya, Raoraïma, Gabrielle, and Theresa... Depending on the depth, you need a level from 1 to 3.
At La Citadelle, you will discover a superb coral plateau. The plateau plunges slowly at first, until it reaches a breathtaking slope of 60 meters. On the first level, at 30 meters, you will see lobsters, parrot fish, beautiful kingfish and wrasse. On the slope at 60 m, you will observe a slope colonized by gorgonians and sponges. It is a volcanic fauna which will be offered to your amazed eyes. A level 1 will be enough to discover this exceptional site.
Here too, you will find a steep slope, up to 40 meters deep. Not to be missed: Solomon's cave, only 3 meters deep. Depending on the places explored, you will need at least a level 1, if not a level 2 in diving. You can admire barracudas, captains and box fish. You can also find hard and soft corals, tubular sponges, as well as red and yellow gorgonians.
Pointe Burgos is located in Anses d'Arlet, and is a superb underwater walk. While criss-crossing the rocks and faults from 5 to 25 meters, you will discover a luxuriant marine fauna and flora, such as beautiful lobsters, platax or gorgonians... This site is suitable for all levels. And if the drop-offs attract you, go and discover a 60 m slope along the plateau.
The Diamond Rock is the most important site in Martinique. The immense rock of 175 m high shelters in its sides an underwater fault which crosses the rock from one side to the other. The fish, fauna and flora are very varied. Thanks to its size, the rock has an impressive amount of cavities, where many crabs, turtles, morays, surgeonfish or emperors can take refuge. Maybe you will also discover a majestic ray? Some places are accessible to the beginner, but you will have to be more experienced to fully explore this extraordinary site.
