The eight best diving spots in Martinique

The three best sites for snorkeling enthusiasts

The coves of Arlet

This pretty beach lies opposite the charming fishing village of Anses d'Arlet. Here you'll find white sand and crystal-clear waters. The rocks, just a few dozen meters from the shore and jutting out into the sea, are home to a diverse array of marine flora and fauna.

The reef is home to coral and trumpet fish, as well as at least three varieties of lobster and eel.

L'anse Noire

Anse Noire takes its name from its black sand beach, and is located between Anses d'Arlet and Trois Ilets. Sheltered at the end of a cove, it is not very popular. On weekends, you'll meet divers, attracted by the unreal beauty and diversity of the seabed.

Anse Couleuvre

Even wilder and more remote,Anse Couleuvre, with its black sandy beach, will delight you with its rich seabed. Here you'll find coral fish and, with a little luck, turtles.

Discover one of the wildest parts of Martinique, in an exceptional setting. To get there, you have to cross the ruins of an old dwelling, the Maison Tardon, via a narrow path. All this in the middle of a tropical forest, giving you the impression of being on the edge of the world. During the dry season, the beach is very busy at weekends.

The five most beautiful dive sites in Martinique

Discover the wrecks of Saint-Pierre

If you're looking to discover shipwrecks buried beneath the waves, the Saint-Pierre wrecks are a dive of choice.

This wreck site is the most famous in the West Indies. These ill-fated ships sank when Montagne Pelée erupted on May 8, 1902. A fiery cloud descended upon them. Today, fourteen wrecks have been identified, at depths ranging from 20 to 80 m. You can contemplate Diamant, Clementina, La Thresa Lo Vigo, Tamaya, Raoraïma, Gabrielle and Theresa... Depending on the depth, you need a level from 1 to 3.

La Citadelle, coral plateau

At La Citadelle, you'll discover a superb coral plateau. Step by step, the plateau plunges slowly down to a breathtaking 60 m slope. On the first level, at 30 m, you'll see spiny lobsters, parrotfish, superb kingfish and wrasse. On the slope at 60 m, you'll see a drop-off colonized by gorgonians and sponges. A volcanic fauna awaits your astonished eyes. Level 1 is all you need to discover this exceptional site.

Cape Solomon

Here, too, you'll find a steep slope, down to a depth of 40 m. Not to be missed: Solomon's Cave, only 3 m deep. Depending on the area explored, you'll need at least a Level 1, if not a Level 2, in diving.

Here you can admire barracudas, captains and trunkfish. You'll also find hard and soft coral, tubular and vase sponges, as well as red and yellow gorgonians.

Burgos Point

Pointe Burgos in Anses d'Arlet is a superb underwater walk. Criss-crossing the rocks and faults from 5 to 25 m, you'll come across a luxuriant array of marine flora and fauna, including beautiful lobsters, platax and gorgonians...

This site is suitable for all levels. And if the drop-offs attract you, discover a 60 m slope running along the plateau.

Diamond Rock

Le rocher du Diamant is Martinique's must-see site. The immense rock, 175 m high, has an underwater fault running right through its flanks. The fish, fauna and flora are extremely varied.

Thanks to its size, the rock has an impressive number of cavities, where many crabs, turtles, moray eels, triggerfish, surgeonfish and emperors take refuge. Perhaps you'll also discover a majestic stingray? Some areas are accessible to beginners, but you'll need more experience to fully explore this extraordinary site.
