Sainte-Marie in Martinique is located 8 km from Lorrain and Gros Morne, on the North Atlantic coast of Martinique. Colonized once by the Caribbean Indians and then by the French, the city really started to develop during the 18th century. This city is home to one of the fundamental elements of Martinique’s history and culture which is rum.

In the middle of a sugar cane plantation of about 250 hectares, you will find the former colonial house, now a rum museum, which will take you on a journey through the history of Martinique’s agricultural rum.

The city’s economy slowed down considerably during the 20th century after the sugar crisis that hit the island.
