Surrounded by the Marin and Rivière-Pilote, it is an integral part of the community of agglomeration of the Southern Area of Martinique.

History of the municipality

It was at the end of the 17th century that a first chapel was built for the few hundred inhabitants (the Saintannais) who had been living from sugar farms until then. Indeed, the cultivation of sugar cane covered most of the arable land at that time. The church of Notre-Dame de Sainte-Anne is today registered as a historical monument, it is one of the first churches on the island!
The calvary that climbs on the morne just behind the church is a very popular place of worship in the town. In September, the Calvary welcomes more than 5,000 pilgrims to complete the La Salette pilgrimage.
